Welcome to a new social group in Cheshire.
Do you want to re-vitalise your social life and have a handy mix of people to play with?
What are you doing this weekend?
Anything interesting or fun planned?
At Go SOUP eighteen of our members will be enjoying socialising at a local wine bar, six others are trying out some off-terrain mountain-biking, fully geared and trained up with specialists. Others are meeting up to walk their dogs or go for a jog and twelve of our members are heading off to a theme park.
Go SOUP was founded by Julie Hadall and a group of friends that have all found themselves in a situation where their immediate social circle was a bit scattered and not all in one place, making organising “going out” a bit limited.
They have formed Go SOUP for like-minded people trying to SOUP up their social life and enjoy an exciting mix of entertaining, challenging, sociable or fun things to do in their spare time
For further information visit their website at http://www.go-soup.co.uk or contact a member of the Go SOUP team on 08450348067.

European award for Arley
Arley Hall and Gardens has won the Special Award of the Foundation Schloss Dyck, in the European Garden Heritage Network awards. Lord and Lady Ashbrook recently travelled to Dusseldorf in Germany to pick up the accolade. “We were given a wonderful reception at Schloss Dyck, it was very exciting,” said Lord Ashbrook. “I think what made Arley stand out to the judges was the commitment of the family to the gardens through so many generations and the standard of maintenance. “To be recognised on an international stage is fantastic. Everybody at Arley should feel very proud.” An international panel of judges nominates parks, gardens, urban spaces, initiatives, projects and people for the awards. Arley was chosen above 50 other gardens for the Special Award.
The gardens were commended for their ‘unusual blend of long history and traditional design with inspired modern ideas and additions’. Praise was given to Arley’s herbaceous borders – thought to be one of the first of its kind planted in England – and the Ilex Avenue of 14 cylindrical evergreen holm oaks. Judge Roswitha Arnold said: “The result is a garden rich in atmosphere, interest and vitality – a wonderful example of the idea that the best gardens are living, changing works of art.” The Arley estate has been in Lord Ashbrook’s family for 500 years, and successive generations have each contributed to the development of the gardens over the past 250 years.

Lord Ashbrook added: “It is very much a family, country house garden. There have been no professional garden designers involved – it has all come from the family. My mother, wife and I have made many of our own contributions over the past 40 years. “We have a wonderful gardening team, but I still enjoy getting hands on with watering, weeding, pruning and finding new plants. “We are proud that so many people continue to visit us. We would not be happy having a garden like this if we couldn’t share it.” The EGHN partnership includes about 150 parks and gardens in eight European countries. It works to promote gardens and encourage people to visit them.
Fresh Meat for Cheshire East Schools
Cheshire East Council has given a fresh boost to school meals and local food producers and suppliers. Currently the meat for school dinners provided by the authority’s catering service is brought in frozen from a national supplier. But, from October 1st, this will gradually be replaced with fresh meat supplied by three Cheshire businesses and one out-of-county firm which supplies locally. The firms are: Barrows Butcher, of Bollington; Littlers Butchers, of Northwich; Steve Brookes Quality Cuts, of Sandbach; and Browns Food Service, of Rugby, Warwickshire.
The 121 primary and 13 secondary schools that are served by Cheshire East catering will receive deliveries of fresh meat – much of it produced locally – twice a week under the new contracts.
Hilda Gaddum, Cabinet member with responsibility for children and family services, said: “This is good news for all concerned – for youngsters who enjoy our healthy and nutritious school meals and for our local butchers and food producers. The Council’s catering service is always striving to improve its standards of nutrition and provision as part of our commitment to helping improve the health and life opportunities of everyone in Cheshire East. “

Three Peaks Challenge
Congratulations to Simon Warman and Kat Moyser from Knutsford who have just completed the three peak challenge (Ben Nevis (Scotland), Scafell Pike (Lake District) and Snowdon (Wales)) in less than 24 hours. The couple actually achieved their goal in 23 hours and 38 minutes which left them a massive 22 minutes to spare.
The challenge was in aid of Camp Project Wales, a charitable organisation that aims to provide an annual holiday for young persons who have not attained the age of 16 years and in order that their conditions of life may be improved. Such persons having need of such holidays by reason of infirmity, disablement, poverty or social and economic circumstances.
Twenty six year old Simon has been actively involved with the charity since his school days at St Nicholas Catholic High School in Hartford. He has been involved in some real crazy stunts over years but this must go down as one of his most enduring to date.
Well done to you both. If anyone would like to sponsor Simon and Kat please email them at admin@budeez.co.uk.

The Carrivick Sisters
Admission £7 (members £6)
The Carrivick Sisters are twins Laura and Charlotte Carrivick from South Devon.
They play a variety of bluegrass instruments (mainly guitar, mandolin, banjo, dobro and fiddle) with vocal harmonies and are both songwriters. Although their background is in bluegrass, their music has a strong folk influence which is evident in their original songs, many of which are inspired by their local landscape and stories.
“I am very impressed by The Carrivick Sisters, one of the best young duos I’ve heard. The girls sing and play as one and their work is characterised by great musicality. They are not only very talented instrumentalists and singers but they write really good songs as well.” – Ralph McTell
